Summer Camps

Week long Camp Pet a Bow-Wow - Summer fun ‘fur’ all!

Camp Pet a Bow-Wow is a place where kids connect with animals. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for children to interact and learn about the animals that share our world. An enthusiastic staff of instructors and friendly animals give your child an enriching experience filled with hands-on animal encounters, fun activities, and crafts. As they have fun, campers learn respect, compassion, and how to provide a lifetime of care for animals.

Campers are grouped according to the grade they will enter in the fall: Grades 1-3 and 4-6. Activities are age and developmentally appropriate. For those campers who want to attend multiple weeks of camp, we have a different theme each week, ensuring that the curriculum changes.

Our younger campers will learn about animal characteristics, behavior and proper pet care. Campers meet and pet bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more! As our campers get older, they will have more sophisticated learning opportunities that include behind the scenes tours, more in-depth animal interactions, enriching games, and volunteer and career exploration.

NEW for 2010! Weekly sessions with a different theme each week!

  • Week 1: July 5-9 "Discover Your Wild Side" Grades 4-6.NOW FULL.  Spots still availble for grades 1-3.

Campers learn about the wild cousins of our domestic friends by comparing wild and domestic animals and learning what makes each group special. Observation of wild animals in our community is paired with one on one interaction with domestic shelter animals along with games, crafts and activities for a “wild” week of animal fun.

  • Week 2: July 12-16 "Fur and Feathers and Fins, Oh My!" Grades 4-6.NOW FULL.  Spots still availble for grades 1-3.

Adaptations are the focus of the week as campers discover how an animal’s lifestyle influences how they look. Through a variety of animal encounters, interactive games, crafts and activities campers learn the pros and cons of different adaptations and get to test their knowledge in an animal building contest.

  • Week 3: July 19-23 "Home Sweet Habitat" Grades 4-6.NOW FULL.  Spots still availble for grades 1-3.

In ‘Home Sweet Habitat’ campers take an in-depth look at animal habitats. Special attention is placed on discovering why each animal calls a different habitat home and what we can learn from them. A home building contest for shelter critters gives campers the chance to practice new skills.

  • Week 4: July 26-30 "Animal Careers Unleashed" Camp 4 is now FULL

Do you have an aspiring vet? Dog trainer? Animal Cop? This is one week they do not want to miss! Campers get a chance to try out their future animal careers by observing in a real vet clinic, training agility dogs and by becoming a “CSI” for CHS to solve a clever ‘dog napping’. Animal interaction, games and activities are all included throughout the week.

  • Week 5: August 9-13 "Everything Animal" Camp 5 is now FULL

For the camper who loves everything about animals there is Everything Animal! Basic care for common domestic animals is contrasted by activities and experiences with our natural world to teach campers why both types of animals are special and deserve our respect. Since no animal camp is complete without the animals, campers also get a chance to interact with critters in shelter at various points during the week.

  • Week 6: August 16-20 "Feeding Frenzy" Grades 4-6.NOW FULL.  Spots still availble for grades 1-3.

Our summer of fun ends off with a Feeding Frenzy! Feeding patterns of animals and how each animal fits into the larger food chain is the focus of the week. Campers engage in interactive activities and games with peers and shelter animals, complete crafts and finish off the week by developing some “gourmet” food for their animal friends at the shelter.
