Pet Friendly Housing in Calgary
The Calgary Humane Society believes that if landlords and government officials were aware of the significant benefits of pet-friendly housing, they would be more inclined to offer such accommodations to the tenants of Calgary.
Why should I provide pet friendly housing?
Some advantages to offering pet friendly housing include an increased rental income, and increased length of stay resulting in a decreased cost in advertising for empty rental space. Recent studies show that tenants who are offered pet friendly housing alternatives will pay 20 to 30 per cent more and stay an average of 46 months compared to 18 months for people without pets. Other benefits could include:
- Increased security around the complex
- Increased positive and friendly atmosphere for tenants
- Pets assist children with the development of language skills, empathy, responsibility and self esteem
- Reduced feelings of loneliness, anxiety and stress in tenants
Living in Harmony
The Calgary Humane Society recognizes both the need for pet-friendly housing, and for responsible tenants who do not abuse the privilege of having pets in their homes.
