Youth Involvement Opportunities

There are a variety of ways that you can become involved in helping animals for all ages!

The Kids For Animals Club (Ages 7-12) - $120 per year

The goal of the Kids for Animals Club is to learn as much as possible about all animals. The more we know about animals and their needs, the better we are able to be their friends. In the Kids for Animals Club we believe in the humane treatment of all animals.

Our Kids for Animals Club members:

  • Have a keen interest in all animals
  • May or may not have a pet at home
  • Want to learn about all types of animals and their environments
  • May be interested in the possibility of working with animals some day

The Club meets one Saturday a month from September to June. In the past our activities have included nature hikes, crafts and games, grooming activities, choosing pets, special speakers, and volunteer work in the shelter.

Junior Ambassador Program (Age 10-12) - $120 per session

Junior Ambassadors will begin to build leadership skills and continue learning about all of the animals that share our world. Our Junior Ambassadors perform duties around the shelter, learn more about the care and handling of animals and create their own fundraiser project with guidance from our Youth Programs Leader. For more information please contact our Humane Education department at educator@calgaryhumane.ca.

The Youth Ambassador Program (Ages 13–18) - $120 per session

This program provides youth with a positive and active involvement through interaction with the animals and designated structured fundraising activities. Our goal with this program is to establish further awareness of humane education and a sense of social responsibility among the youth of today. The Youth Ambassador Program is currently looking for applicants. If you are interested in joining the next 10 week session, please contact us for an application package.

Over 16?

Volunteer with our Kitty Karma and Bunny hugger programs. You become a crucial person to that animal’s socialization. Training in animal handling is provided to ensure animal safety as well as yours.  A well mannered cat or rabbit will have a better chance at finding its forever home.

Over 18?

You can Volunteer as a dog walker, or participate in other volunteer positions that are available at The Calgary Humane Society.
