Birthday Parties


Have your next birthday party at the Calgary Humane Society! We offer parties for kids in grades 1-6 at our shelter. Birthday Parties are two or three hours long and make use of a decorated party room with age appropriate activities.

Standard Birthday Package

Party your paws off at Calgary Humane Society! Our standard birthday package is an affordable option for any family seeking a furry and fabulous birthday experience! Our experienced birthday party facilitator will lead birthday guests through a fun and engaging birthday program including fun activities, crafty creations and an interactive tour of the shelter. Your child’s party is topped off with a visit from a special animal guest and then it is time for cake and presents. Looking to have an extra special birthday? The Details

Standard parties available for children in grades 1-6. Standard party fee: $210.00

Standard parties include:

  • Two hour party in a private party space
  • Full programming provided by our birthday facilitator
  • A tour of our Facility
  • A Cool Creative Craft
  • Interactive Presentation
  • A Special Animal Guest
  • Juice Boxes for the party guests
  • ALL plates, cutlery, napkins etc.
  • Decorations set up and ready to go

Deluxe Birthday Package

Looking for a no-fuss, stress free birthday option? Our deluxe birthday package is stress-free, no fuss option for those seeking a furry and fabulous birthday experience! Your child’s party includes visits from three special animal guests and finishes off with time for cake and presents. The best news? We take care of everything! You just show up with the cake.   • Pizza for the guests (2 large pizzas included – 12 pieces total)
  • Juice Boxes for the party guests

  • An extra special gift for the birthday child

Birthday Fundraising

Looking to make a difference for your birthday?

Do you want to help out Calgary Humane Society pets? Here are some ideas other children have done for their parties:

  • Toonies for Tabbies – Have guests bring a toonie to donate to the animals at Calgary Humane Society
  • Collect cash donations in lieu of birthday presents for the animals
  • Ask each guest to bring a can of wet food or a bag of kibble (Hill’s Science Diet preferable)
  • Ask each guest to bring one item from our wish list

Please note: We are only able to issue a tax receipt to the original donor. If you are collecting donations from your guests and they would like a tax receipt, please record their name and address on the linked form and submit with the donation.

Birthday Party FAQ

– Please be advised that we will need a 1:6 parent to child ratio during birthday party events.
Parents/Guardians, and Adult guests are expected to supervise their children as well as the other children in the group.
– The Calgary Humane Society is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. As such, abuse or harassment of the birthday party leader will not be tolerated. The Party Coordinator reserves the right to cancel the party if children are not kept reasonably under control by the adult guests.
– Parental involvement in party activities is strongly encouraged! Have FUN, it’s a birthday party!

The party booking fee includes up to 12 children. Additional children can be included for $5 per child up to a maximum of 15 children. Please note that the party space fits up to 22 people when inviting both adults and children.

We request that you bring 1 adult for every 6 children attending.

While we do not have a strict limit on the number of adults that can attend, please note that the room can only hold up to 22 people. If inviting adults to your child’s party please keep in mind that our birthday party coordinator’s goal is to keep your child engaged and safe and groups of parents at the back of the room involved in discussions may distract the children. We respectfully request that adults in attendance engage with the birthday party activities by assisting children whenever possible.

A Calgary Humane Society Birthday Party Experience includes a visit with a special animal guest (2 guests for deluxe party) who will be brought up to the learning center. Children will learn the basic needs of the special guest and how to communicate with the animal using body language.

A note about animal guests: As an open-admission animal shelter, we receive animals of all species, breed, temperament and background. As such, some of our animals are more suited to visiting with young people and large groups than others. With a continually changing population of animals we can not predict who will be available on any given day. Safety of our human and animal friends is our utmost priority and the most appropriate animal guest for your group will be determined by staff on the day of your visit.

There is no outside food or drink allowed other than the birthday cake unless prior arrangements have been made.

Of course! You can provide gift bags for your guests we only ask that you leave distribution until the end of the party time.

We do request that you remove all garbage and personal decorations from the party space at the end of your party and wipe up any large messes (ie: spilled juice box or icing on the floor) however we do not require parents to complete any major clean-up items.

If the birthday party is cancelled three weeks prior to the event or more, a full refund minus the $50.00 non refundable reservation fee will be processed to your credit card. If the birthday party is cancelled less than three weeks prior to the scheduled birthday party we will hold the full amount. If you need to reschedule your birthday party, please let us know three weeks prior to the original date of your birthday party. We will then try to find another date that works for you. We aim to be flexible whenever possible but we may be constrained by other bookings.

The Calgary Humane Society Birthday Party Experience is a scheduled two or three hour rental (depending on party package) of the Calgary Humane Society learning center. As other departments may schedule events before and after the birthday party use we can not accommodate early arrival or late departure.
