This summer, Calgary Humane Society is leading a first-of-its-kind Spay & Neuter Drive in partnership with veterinary clinics across Calgary. From July 27 to August 2, we’re aiming to provide surgeries to those on our spay & neuter waitlist just one week, helping reduce pet overpopulation,
prevent unwanted litters, and support families who otherwise can’t access essential veterinary
care.

Spaying and neutering pets is one of the most effective ways to address the root causes of animal homelessness and overcrowded shelters. But for many low income pet owners, the cost of surgery can be out of reach.

Demand for these services is especially urgent give that 76% of all spay/neuter applications at CHS are for medium to large breed dogs. Dogs and puppies of this size typically experience a longer length of stay in adoption, placing additional strain on shelter resources.

Summer Spay & Neuter Drive

  • Dates: July 27 – August 2,2025
  • In addition to Calgary Humane Society Clinic, partnering clinics include Sadadilla Animal Clinic, Trinity Hills 24 Hour Pet Hospital, Countryside Veterinary Hospital, Acadia Drive Animal Clinic and Britannia Kingsland Veterinary Clinic
  • Focused on low-income households, applications available here.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to PAWWISE Community Clinics, ensuring pets stay in homes where they are loved and out of shelters.

The impact

Every year, Calgary Humane Society sees hundreds of animals surrendered due to financial barriers and the inability to access veterinary care. Many of these surrenders are preventable with early intervention and access to services like spay/neuter surgery.

By helping families access proactive care:

  • We prevent unwanted litters
  • Reduce disease risk
  • Ease pressure on the shelter system
  • Keep animals in homes where they belong
