Youth Clubs
Claw-tent Creators (ages 13-16)
Our Claw-tent Creators club attendees will:
- Develop an understanding of digital literacy and how online tools can be used to advocate for animal welfare
- Strengthen awareness of internet safety and responsible online engagement when creating animal focused content
- Learn how media can influence public attitudes and inspire positive action for animals
- Collaborate with peers, staff, and both human and animal guest visitors to create meaningful advocacy projectse
- Build confidence in using technology as a tool for education, compassion, and community involvementt
- Explore how youth voices can make a real world difference for animals through modern communication channels
- Develop the skills needed to become thoughtful, informed animal advocates in a digitally connected world
- Build Empathy for all living things and work towards inspiring empathy in others as well!

Running April 14th – June 2nd
Claw-tent Creators club will integrate the technology of our modern world into a means of supporting our animals by utilizing different forms of media to teach youth ages 13-16 how to advocate for all animals. This weekly club will introduce youth to different themes surrounding digital literacy, internet safety and how to create a meaningful change for our animal population through social media! With human and animal guests, we will work together to develop new animal advocates in our tech connected lives.
Club fee: $175
Crafty Critters (ages 10-12)
Our Crafty Critters club attendees will:
- Learn to identify animal body language signs in dogs, cats, bunnies, and more
- Develop their creativity and artistic confidence by designing and sewing their own stuffed animal inspired by shelter pets
- Strengthen fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination through hands on sewing practice
- Learn foundational sewing techniques that build a valuable lifelong skill
- Observe and interact with shelter animals to inspire thoughtful, animal themed craft designs
- Build empathy and compassion by learning about the care and needs of animals in the shelter
- Collaborate with peers and staff in a supportive, creative environment
- Explore how arts and crafts can promote kindness, connection, and appreciation for animals
- Gain pride in creating a meaningful, handmade project that celebrates our adoptable animals and personal creativity

April 15th – June 3rd
In the Crafty Critters club we will encourage the creative energy of children ages 10-12 year old. Throughout this club, children will take inspiration from and observation of the animals at the shelter to design and sew a stuffed animal friend! Children will be learning the life skill of sewing, which will work to improve fine motor skills and encourage creativity, all while interacting with, learning about and caring for the animals in the shelter. This is the perfect opportunity for any creative, animal-loving children in your life!
Club fee: $175
Pets, Plants & Pollinators (ages 7-9)
Our Pets, Plants & Pollinators club attendees will:
- Learn to identify animal body language signs in dogs, cats, bunnies, and more
- Build an early understanding of ecosystems and how animals, plants, and people all depend on one another
- Explore the importance of both large and small animals in our local environment and why each species matters
- Observe plant life cycles and discover how plants grow, change, and support the world around them
- Learn how pollinators help our environment and why protecting them is essential for a healthy ecosystem
- Develop awareness of how their actions impact the land, animals, and natural spaces they interact with
- Participate in hands on gardening, stories, crafts, and activities that bring environmental concepts to life
- Interact with special guests—both human and animal—to deepen empathy and understanding
- Strengthen a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the earth by learning how to care for animals, plants, and the environment
- Learn about empathy and compassion while learning about different animals who come through the shelter

Running April 16th – June 2nd
Pets, Plants and Pollinators club will teach children ages 7-9 about ecosystems, the environment and the earth we live on. We will be discussing the significance of both the largest and smallest animals in our city. Children will be provided the opportunity to observe plant life cycles, consider how all life on the land is connected, and how they impact the land they are on. This club will contain stories, gardening, crafting and special guests (both human and animal) to develop a foundational understanding of being caregivers of the animal and land.
Club fee: $175
Words and Whiskers (ages 8-11)
Our Words & Whiskers club attendees will:
- Learn to identify animal body language signs in dogs, cats, bunnies, and more
- Build confidence and enthusiasm in reading by practicing aloud in a calm, supportive environment
- Strengthen literacy and communication skills through structured reading activities and guided discussions
- Learn how to interact with animals calmly, compassionately, and safely while providing enrichment through reading
- Gain an understanding of Calgary Humane Society’s mission and how animal welfare organizations support animals in need
- Develop empathy by recognizing how their presence and voices positively impact the animals they read to
- Improve focus, patience, and self expression through regular participation in a book club style format
- Connect stories and reading experiences to real life animal care and advocacy
- Grow into thoughtful, future animal welfare advocates by engaging with animals, staff, and meaningful shelter activities

Running April 17th – June 5th
Words and Whiskers is to introduce participants aged 8-11 to Calgary Humane Society’s mission while helping them build confidence and enthusiasm in their reading skills. By reading aloud to animals, youth learn how to interact calmly and compassionately with animals while also providing them with socialization and enrichment. This book club format encourages literacy development, strengthens communication skills and helps inspire children to become future animal welfare advocates through their journey at CHS.
