Youth Clubs
Animal Apprentices (ages 7-9)
Our Animal Apprentices will:
- Learn about the humane treatment of all animals
- Learn about the needs of all domestic animals in the shelter
- Learn about wild animals and their habitats
- Be able to identify body language signs for dogs, cats, bunnies, and more
- Understand how to respond to different body languages of animals
- Learn ways to be a pet’s best friend and how to properly play with companion animals
- Learn about animal habitats and pet care
- Create fun and engaging animal crafts
- Experience special animal visits to help develop skills and knowledge about the animals at Calgary Humane Society

Starting September 11
The goal of the Animal Apprentices Club is to learn as much as possible about all animals while enjoying fun experiences at the shelter. The more we know about animals, their needs and behaviours, the better we are able to be their friends!
Club fee: $175
Animal Allies (ages 10-12)
Our Animal ALLIES will:
- Build upon their sense of social responsibility to animals, people, and the environment
- Begin to form a deeper understanding of proper animal care, body language and enrichment
- Understand what laws exist to protect animals and how these laws are enforced
- Recognize the importance of native flora and fauna in the environment and how these species are important to a stable ecosystem
- Actively participate in support tasks around Calgary Humane Society to make a difference in the lives of the animals in our care
- Become Calgary Humane Society Champions by developing their understanding of philanthropy and the importance of fundraising in non-profit work

Starting September 10
Animal Allies Club provides youth with the opportunity to begin building leadership skills and continue learning about all of the animals that share their world with us.
Club fee: $175
Animal Aides (ages 12-15)
Our Animal Aides Will:
- Understand the importance of volunteer work within a non-profit organization.
- Become familiar with the roles and responsibilities for our several volunteer positions.
- Interact with our animals in shelter and be able to successfully identify body language in cats, dogs. bunnies and other exotics.
- Actively participate in shelter support by folding laundry, cleaning dishes, filling dog kongs and building enrichment toys for our critters.
- Participate in hands-on tasks such as cleaning kitty cabins and dog runs or assisting with the evening feedings.
- Enjoy participating in animal themed games and creative projects.
- Complete our Animal Aides club to feel confident and prepared for their potential volunteer role with us!

Fridays from 5pm – 7pm
Starting September 12
The goal of Animal Aides is to familiarize young, future volunteers with how Calgary Humane society operates and how to sucessfully interact with a variety of animals. This club will help prepare your child for many of our volunteer positons that they may be interested in so that they can begin their volunteering journey with us!.
Volunteering at Calgary Humane Society starts at age 14.

Animal Advocates (ages 13-16)
Our Animal ADVOCATEs will:
- Build upon their sense of social responsibility to animals, people, and the environment
- Refresh their knowledge of proper animal care, body language, and enrichment
- Understand available volunteer opportunities in animal welfare
- Actively participate in support tasks around Calgary Humane Society to make a difference in the lives of the animals in our care
- Be exposed to different career opportunities that involve working with or around animals
- Become Calgary Humane Society Champions by developing their understanding of philanthropy and the importance of fundraising in non-profit work

Starting September 9
Animal Advocates Club provides youth with the positive experience of active involvement in our shelter through interactions with animals, structured volunteer shadowing opportunities, and inspiring guest speakers.
Club fee: $175
