Meet Luke, a handsome Miniature Schnauzer who is having a very hard time adjusting to shelter life. Right now, the world feels scary to him, and since arriving we haven't yet been able to touch him outside of his vet exam because of how fearful he is. Our staff is working every day to build that trust, but we know it will take time. Beneath all of his fear is a dog who desperately wants safety, comfort, and someone he can trust.

His previous owner told us that once Luke chooses his person, he loves deeply. He'll give you soft little kisses on your nose, loves cuddling up close for naps and bedtime, and wants to be your constant shadow. Luke seems happiest when he can stay near the person he trusts most, and he would do best with someone who is home more often than not and is willing to make him part of their daily life.

Luke has previously had a small dog friend and may enjoy another calm, respectful canine companion. He has no known history with cats. Because of his fearfulness, Luke is looking for an adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand canine body language and are prepared to move slowly and patiently. Building a relationship with him may take many weeks, or even months, and adopters should be ready for a challenge as he learns to feel safe. Luke is also known to have a favourite, so be prepared to either be the center of his world or just a "spare" depending on how many people are in the home!
