Summer Jobs

Calgary Humane Society is pleased to be supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program, which helps us provide meaningful work experience while advancing our mission to improve the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

The Canada Summer Jobs grant program is a federal initiative that provides wage subsidies to employers to create meaningful summer employment opportunities for youth. These roles are designed to help participants gain valuable work experience while contributing to their communities.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for these positions, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • International students are not eligible under the Canada Summer Jobs program

Position Details
  • Most positions are 35 hours/week for 8 weeks

  • Some positions are 30 hours/week for 9 weeks

  • Positions must be completed on a consecutive, full-time basis

  • Start and end dates will vary by role

  • All roles are based on-site at Calgary Humane Society

  • Wage: $17.00/hour + 6% vacation pay (total compensation: $18.02/hour)

Our Hiring Approach

We are hiring across three streams:

  1. Administrative: Support communications, fundraising, and volunteer programs behind the scenes.

  2. Humane Education: Deliver engaging programs and summer camps for children and youth.

  3. Animals & Operations: Work hands-on with animals, clients, and shelter operations.

Applicants can apply to the stream that best matches their interests and strengths. From there, candidates may be considered for multiple roles within that stream based on skills, experience, and organizational needs.
